Food Memories is a series of color photograms created in the darkroom of thinly sliced produce. This series was spawned from a private commission I created for an Italian Restaurant who wanted imagery that related to their menu. I experimented with a lot of ingredients and color palettes. I created many images that went well beyond the initial private commission and a series emerged. While in the darkroom I would conjure many of the delicious meals my grandmother, grandfather and mother created for our huge family. I am of Sicilian descent and most of our family events revolved around food. So you can imagine the love and memories that flooded back from simple produce.
California Prop 64 has been on my mind lately and I have been experimenting with a new process called Lumin Printing. I love the results and decided to share. Each print is so individual that I decided to match the visual of the image with an appropriate cannabis strain name.
Process: LUMIN PRINTS (Cameraless Image)
I used cannabis leaves and laid them on top of unexposed Black & White photographic paper. They were exposed in the sun from 10 to 60 minutes and processed in fixer chemistry. Results vary due to different papers, exposure time & chemistry.
